Durante la guerra di
Secessione, un caporale nordista, Jonathan Mc Burney, ferito e abbandonato in territorio nemico, viene raccolto da una
bambina, Emily, ospite di un collegio per fanciulle diretto da miss 

Martha, un'abile, autoritaria zitella.
Ricoverato nel collegio stesso, Jonathan - che ha perso molto sangue da una gamba e ha le mani ustionate - viene curato,
ben sapendo però che, una volta guarito, dovrà 

essere consegnato ai sudisti come prigioniero di
guerra.



 La
minaccia, tuttavia, non verrà attuata, poiché Mc Burney, unico uomo della casa e per di più giovane e bello, ha
attirato le simpatie di quasi tutte le sue ospiti: dalla bambina che l'ha salvato alla stessa 

Martha; da
Edwina, l'insegnante di francese, a Carol, una sensuale diciassettenne che lo invita nottetempo nella propria camera.



 Qui
Jonathan - che ha promesso amore sia a Martha che a Edwina - viene sorpreso da quest'ultima che in un accesso d'odio e
di gelosia lo fa precipitare giù dalle scale. Altrettanto inasprita, ma senza darlo a 

vedere, è Martha
che, col pretesto di impedire che la gamba di Jonathan - fratturatasi nella caduta - vada in cancrena, si vendica
amputandogliela. Al risveglio, Mc Burney, fuori di sé, diventa minaccioso; vuol 

rifarsi di quel che gli
è accaduto imponendo a tutte la propria autorità. Col pretesto di volersi riappacificare con lui, allora Martha lo
invita a pranzo e...


Storyline

During the
civil war, injured Yankee soldier, John McBurney is rescued on the verge of death by a teenage girl from a southern
boarding school. She manages to get him back to the school, and at first the all-

female staff and pupils are
scared. As he starts to recover, one by one he charms them and the atmosphere becomes filled with jealousy and deceit.
